Pilates are a number of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates that are aimed at strengthening, stretching and balancing the entire body. The exercises usually take place on the mat. Pilates works from the body center (in Pilates terminology this is your 'powerhouse'), which is supported by a correct breathing pattern. The exercises are focused on your lower back, abdomen, pelvis and gluteal muscles making your powerhouse stronger. During the lessons you learn to strengthen, extend and relax your muscles through subtle movements.
